Procurement & Nutrition Program Manager

Reports to: Co-Executive Director of Programs & Staff

Hourly wage: $24-$27/hour, depending on experience, reduced hours July 1-August 15

FTE: 0.5

Start date: early February 2024

Benefits:

This is a 20 hour a week, .5 FTE position.  Reduced summer hours are flexible, or leave July 1-August 16th.  It is a hybrid position with options to work from home or at the RVF2S office in Ashland. Benefits include a $30/month phone stipend with 10 days of sick time, paid professional development opportunities, and 16 PTO days that increase after year one. Family and Medical leave employee withholding paid, optional Oregon Saves plan.


Overview:

The Procurement and Nutrition Manager is the main point of contact for farm to school food sourcing  in the Rogue Valley, Jackson, and Josephine Counties. As the leader of Rogue Valley Farm to School’s Procurement and Nutrition Team, you will assist schools in purchasing local foods, listen to and respond to barriers and successes, and track/report on efforts made. The position supervises other Procurement and Nutrition Team members and supports all internal programs with nutrition education and local procurement.


Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Coordinate & facilitate bi-weekly procurement team meetings 

    • Set meeting time, send reminder 

    • Create weekly agenda,  facilitate meeting

    • Delegate procurement tasks to the procurement team related to tasting tables, school orders, or outreach

    • Take notes and organize them in the shared drive

  • Serve as the Regional Hub Coordinator (RHC) for the Oregon Farm to School Network

    • Conduct outreach to school nutrition providers and local food producers, including phone calls and/or site visits 

    • Attend quarterly meetings through the state-wide network, sharing updates from the Rogue Valley

    • Assist Nutrition Directors with connecting to ODE resources and staff for Farm to CNP Grant support

    • Plan one annual gathering to assist in the procurement of local foods

    • Plan one annual training to assist nutrition programs in utilizing local foods 

    • Track coordination of local foods to schools 

    • Complete annual reporting to the statewide network tracking outreach, technical assistance, and event planning efforts

  • Oversee the Harvest of the Month (HOM) program 

    • Support TT coordinator with sourcing HOM products in collaboration with local farms

    • Coordinate relevant promotional and educational materials 

    • Coordinate with the education team on Harvest of the Month outreach materials

  • Supervise  procurement team members, Farm to Cafeteria Coordinator, and Tasting Table Coordinator 

    • Provide on-boarding orientation and training

    • Conduct annual evaluations

    • Support and offer feedback and respond to needs and questions

    • Track employee tasks and timelines, send reminders

    • Read and apply relevant research and evaluation tools for procurement team sustainability and success, including relevant professional development opportunities for procurement team 

  • Assist in general Rogue Valley Farm to School support

    • Attend garden educator meetings, all-staff meetings, staff retreats, and trainings

    • Support Education and Outreach projects with procurement and nutrition expertise and materials

    • Attend and work during community outreach events

    • Assist with nutrition & procurement grant applications and reporting

  • Genuine excitement and personal alignment with Rogue Valley Farm to Schools mission, and passionate about creating an equitable, robust local economy while bettering the quality of school meals

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with varied stakeholders with competing priorities

  • Extremely well-organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to make and meet strict timelines

  • 2+ years of experience managing small teams

  • Deep understanding of challenges faced by small scale local food producers

  • Knowledge of school nutrition services and systems

  • Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a remote/hybrid work environment. 

  • Proficient with various online platforms such as Google Drive, Sheets, Excel, Canva and MailChimp

  • Valid US driver's license

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
