School Garden Coordinators
The School Garden Coordinator (SGC) is a volunteer position; The SGC insures that the school garden is maintained and cared for throughout the year. The SGC facilitates student and parent involvement in the garden, and the suitable inclusion of school garden grown produce in classroom snacks and school meals.
Duties:
• Check on the garden at least once a week including the irrigation and fencing
• Perform general maintenance to insure that the garden receives adequate water, weeding, and planting
• Maintain compost pile and communicate with the school compost program if it exists
• Communicate with teachers and parents about garden needs and opportunities for involvement
• Communicate with RVF2S staff about garden status, garden events, and equipment needs, etc.
• Attend School Garden Coordinator training event, and at least 4 meetings
• Offer at least 10 opportunities for student and parent involvement such as: after school or lunchtime garden clubs, class visits to the garden, summer work parties and garden fundraising events over the course of the year
• Communicate with RVF2S and other SGCs via email on-line file-sharing
• Provide garden produce to cafeteria, classrooms or farm stands when possible, and track quantities and prices via online data collection.
Qualifications:
• Good communication skills
• Gardening experience and knowledge
• Enjoys working with kids in the garden
• Computer literacy and access
• Carpentry and irrigation skills a plus!
• Background check required

Stipend: $450/year
